Grant Recipients

The Grant Process

Our mission, very simply, is to provide assistance to Denver Metro area children and families. We want to help to improve the lives of children diagnosed with a life-threatening illness (e.g. cancer), who are faced with a lifetime medical condition (e.g. asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis), or who are involved in tragic accidents.

We do this by providing modest financial grants (generally once) to children and their families in the Denver Metro area to help ease their burdens. Because we want to help as many children as we can, we generally limit our support to $2,000 for one child.

Special Considerations

The home as a refuge Because we know the importance of a stable, functional home for everyone, and especially for those with illnesses, we want the home to provide comfort during trying times.  So, we give special consideration to requests that:

  • Short-term assistance to allow the family to stay in their home.
  • Make the home more livable by providing special furnishings, technologies or adaptations.

Extra efforts assist We have learned that medical conditions can be improved by special activities or equipment that makes life more livable.  But often these amenities are beyond the budgets of families faced with illness.  So, we give special consideration to requests that:

  • Enable a child to participate in specialized activities or therapies that will improve his/her ability to cope with the condition.
  • Provide special adaptive equipment to improve the quality of life.

Other things we look at.

How will our grant improve/make a difference in the life of the recipients?

Will our grant fill a gap for the recipients?

Is there no other way this need could be met?

Things we generally don’t consider.

Because we want to provide immediate, tangible and special assistance for children with medical conditions, we generally don’t consider requests for medical research, direct medical expenses, capital projects, or paying off debts.

When we review requests.

We look at requests every quarter.  Our review process generally takes 30 days, so we ask that you provide your information at least a month in advance of our scheduled meetings.  Our meetings for the year are:

  • March
  • June
  • September
  • December

How to apply for a grant.

We will take requests from doctors, social workers and other medical personnel familiar with the circumstances of the family.  We also take referrals from families themselves or from friends and families associated with the family in need.

We have developed a simple, online grant application form that should be completed by the referring party.  It does require confirmation of the illness or medical condition by a doctor or hospital personnel.
